Buyer Evaluations
I received this charger a couple weeks ago and made use of it about 4 or 5 times. I noticed it would only charge if the red light was on, and that the light would only go on if I twisted it a specific way in the charging port. This was sort of annoying, but no huge deal. It was also tough to remove the charger from my telephone (it would get stuck on 1 side), but once more, not a major deal.
Here's the major dilemma: it caught on fire. No, you didn't misread that. I was driving last night and I noticed the light had gone off so I twisted it (gently) a tiny and felt one thing snap. I saw some thing vibrant yellow out of the corner of my eye. I looked closer as it started out glowing brighter and realized that there was a flame inside the charger! I yanked it out by the cord and melted pieces of plastic and hot metal came flying out everywhere. I smelled smoke and melting plastic and pulled more than quickly. This all occurred inside 4 seconds. I can not imagine how bad it could have been had I not pulled it out as fast as I had, and thank goodness I wasn't on the freeway or anything at all. Immediately after that, I spent 15 minutes looking my car or truck for all of the broken and burned pieces and located most of them (four pieces total). I was afraid some pieces nevertheless remained in the port, but fortunately they had all come out. I'm guessing that when it broke (once more, I wasn't forcing it or something when this occurred) the coil that is inside the plastic sheath had come in contact with the electrical contacts and this triggered it to brief circuit and ignite the plastic. Extremely scary, but I'm definitely fortunate it wasn't worse.
Amazon has been especially understanding and let me know that I should obtain a refund within a handful of days. Amazon or the seller was not the dilemma, this item was.
You get what you spend for. This charger works good but the good quality of the item is lower. I've had mine for a month now and it nevertheless operates amazing.
